Oktoberfest Dirndl 2024: These dirndls are on trend – these are no longer

Oktoberfest Dirndl 2024

We’ll tell you which Oktoberfest dirndls we’ll be wearing in 2024 – and which ones we won’t. Mini or midi, with glitter or plain: we’ll show you what’s hot at the Oktoberfest this year.

The Oktoberfest is the largest folk festival in the world, attracting millions of people to Munich every year. In addition to beer tents and culinary delights, traditional costume plays an important role in the festivities. But which dirndl styles are we wearing this year, and which are out of fashion? We show you three dirndls that will be bang on trend in 2024 – and three that are out this year. The selection of dirndl styles is more diverse than ever before. The Oktoberfest dirndls 2024 are characterised by a return to traditional designs that are nevertheless interpreted in a modern way.

The Dirndl Trends 2024 highlight the latest colours, materials and styles that are popular this season. The trends are characterised by nature-inspired colours, innovative fabrics such as velvet and linen and eye-catching patterns.

This year’s trend: elegant velvet dirndls in the 2024 Oktoberfest collection

Velvety soft dirndls, a modern interpretation of traditional costume clothing, look particularly elegant and have become a real fashion trend over the years. This year, velvety dirndls are at the forefront of the trend. Bonprix styles suit every woman and look effortlessly luxurious even without lots of glitter and accessories.

Dirndl trend 2024: dirndls in monochrome colours

Bright colour mixes will give way to uniform, monochrome dirndl combinations in 2024. Colours such as apricot are particularly popular, creating a fresh and summery style. The apron and dirndl are coordinated and if you like, you can also choose a blouse in a matching colour. A matching traditional shirt can also emphasise the monochrome look and create a harmonious overall look. The look is understated, yet sophisticated and style-conscious. Monochrome dirndl outfits will be seen more often from now on.

Oktoberfest 2024: This year we’ll be wearing dirndls with sleeves

Instead of a dirndl blouse, this year we are focussing on dirndls with integrated sleeves. V-neck dirndl blouses are particularly popular as they add a festive touch to the outfit. There are also stylish options for men this year that combine traditional and modern elements. This trend is beautifully uncomplicated, but still looks special. Dirndls with puffed sleeves are a welcome change from the typical Oktoberfest looks and will turn you into fashionistas at the Oktoberfest.

The right fit and fitting tips for your dirndl

The right fit is crucial for your dirndl to fit perfectly and make you feel comfortable. Here are some fitting tips to make sure your dirndl fits like a dream:

  • The bodice: It should be skin-tight, but not so tight that it becomes uncomfortable. A well-fitting bodice emphasises your waist and creates a beautiful silhouette.
  • The skirt length: Choose the skirt length according to the occasion and your personal taste. A midi dirndl is a classic choice and reaches just above the knee. For a sportier look, you can choose a mini dirndl that is around 50 cm long.
  • The bow: The position of the bow is not just a fashionable detail, it also has a meaning. Tied on the right-hand side, it signals that you are taken; tied on the left-hand side, it means that you are single. Tied at the back, it indicates that you are widowed or a waitress.

ith these tips, you are guaranteed to find the perfect dirndl that not only looks good, but is also comfortable.

Dirndl lengths and styling: which ones are available and what do they go with?

Dirndls come in different lengths, which can be chosen according to the occasion and personal taste. Here are some popular options:

  • Mini dirndl: With a skirt length of around 50 cm, the mini dirndl is perfect for a sporty and youthful look. It is ideal for folk festivals and other informal occasions.
  • Midi dirndl: This classic choice has a skirt length of around 60-70 cm and reaches just above the knee. It is ideal for traditional occasions and gives you an elegant and timeless look.
  • Maxi dirndl: With a skirt length of around 85 cm, the maxi dirndl is the elegant choice for special occasions. It looks particularly festive and elegant and is perfect for formal events.

No matter which length you choose, make sure that the dirndl suits your style and the occasion.

Traditional costume accessories and details: skilfully combining underwear and accessories

The right accessories and matching underwear can transform your dirndl from a simple piece of clothing into a real eye-catcher. Here are some tips to complete your traditional costume:

  • Underwear: Choose underwear that matches the colour of your dirndl and is discreetly hidden under the blouse. A dirndl bra is a must to ensure the perfect fit and emphasise your figure.
  • Accessories: Jewellery, hairstyles and shoes can transform your dirndl from a classic look to a modern trend. Beautiful traditional jewellery, such as a necklace or earrings, can add the finishing touch to your outfit. A matching hairstyle, such as a plaited plait, also rounds off the look.
  • Shoes: Traditional costume shoes or elegant pumps go perfectly with your dirndl and create a harmonious overall impression.

With these tips, you can ensure that your dirndl look is perfectly coordinated and that you will shine at Oktoberfest 2024.

In addition to the three trends, there are also a few no-goes when it comes to dirndl looks that are no longer in fashion. Traditional costumes such as lederhosen, on the other hand, are still very popular, especially at Oktoberfest. The following also applies to men: traditional costumes such as lederhosen remain popular and are a must for Oktoberfest. These include

  • Dirndls that are too short: This rule has been in place for some time, which is why we would like to emphasise it again this year: Dirndls that are too short are absolutely out. For an elegant silhouette and a modern look, it’s best to choose a dirndl that is 70 centimetres or longer so that it is knee-length.
  • Dirndl with lacing: Most traditional costume designers have been doing away with ribbon lacing for some time now and instead decorate their creations with simple bodices and discreet headbands. This minimal look also lends the dirndl more elegance, instead of adding bulk with ribbons and buckles.
  • Overloaded dirndls: less is more. Dirndls with lots of lace, glitter and rhinestones are rather out in 2024. Instead, the focus will be on subtle accents, beautiful colours and uniform looks. This year, dirndls should be modern and elegant, not too overloaded.

These are the most beautiful dirndl looks for Oktoberfest 2024

This year at the Oktoberfest, we are focusing on understated but elegant looks and emphasising traditional ‘Trachten fashion for the Oktoberfest’. Dirndls made of velvet, in monochrome colours and with integrated sleeves are at the top of the trend list for this year’s Oktoberfest. A well-chosen traditional shirt can round off the look and create a harmonious overall impression. Dirndls that are too short, overstuffed or laced will have to be relegated to the fashion bench until further notice. Of course, the dirndl must also suit your personal style, but hopefully our tips will make it easier for you to find the perfect Trachten look.

Dirndl trend 2024: New colours and fresh styles conquer the Oktoberfest

After pink set the tone in 2023, 2024 is all about new colours, explains Axel Munz, Managing Director of the traditional costume chain Angermaier. ‘This year, fashionable purple, light mint, sage, royal blue, deep red, pine green and elegant black dominate.’ Monochrome looks, in which the dirndl dress, apron and blouse are in the same colour, are also among the highlights. Another detail: ‘All dirndls are knee-length in 2024,’ emphasises Munz.

Dirndl design

Dirndl designer Angelika Zwerenz also focuses on bold colours and adds: ‘Lavender and lilac are also on trend.’ For her, the focus is on allowing every woman to choose the colours that best accentuate her personality. She dedicates one of her creations to Taylor Swift, who characterised the Munich summer with her concerts. The ‘Swiftie-Dirndl’, which Zwerenz designed for 2024, combines modern colours with Bavarian tradition, including blue and white.

Celebrity dirndl

For celebrity stylist Samuel Sohebi, who styled Paris Hilton and others for the Oktoberfest, Taylor Swift and Adele are also important sources of inspiration for Oktoberfest fashion in 2024. ‘Emancipation plays a central role – women should appear confident and proud,’ emphasises Sohebi. His trend summary for the Wiesn 2024: ‘International flair meets Bavarian tradition.’ It is important to make an effort with your outfit and not turn up to the Wiesn in everyday clothes.

Munz from Angermaier sees clear no-gos for the Oktoberfest: ‘Mini dirndls, flip-flops or Birkenstocks with dirndls and Carmen blouses.’ It is particularly unflattering if the apron is longer than the dress.

And what will men be wearing in 2024? Munz reveals: ‘Short, hand-finished leather trousers made from deer and buckskin with elaborate embroidery, often in a vintage look, are the trend.’ Bold colours such as bordeaux, bright blue or black with gold accents also play a major role for men. Fashion sins for men: ill-fitting leather trousers, T-shirts under a waistcoat and short-sleeved shirts.
